Alan – Age 69
“I played guitar in a band when I was young but sold it to pay a gas and electric bill when we had our first daughter. It never occurred to me to buy another. Then one Christmas my family bought me a new one and now look how many I’ve got!”
I own a printing business. I was doing an Open University course. I was a compositor – which does’t exist any more – in the printing industry. To start with, take on anything you can do at the minute. I just say take anything on you can do and see how it evolves. When you retire you don’t get any spare time whatsoever, there’s so much to do. Tomorrow, for instance, is our walking group.
I’ve enjoyed going back to playing music a lot. I was in a band when I was about 14 and then when we had our first daughter I got rid of it to pay a gas or electric bill and it never occurred to me to buy another guitar and then one christmas my wife and my daughters bought me a new guitar, now look how many I’ve got.
