“Brighton is fabulous, it’s a 24 hour city and it’s totally cosmopolitan. People live side by side and get on with each other. As far as Brighton’s concerned, it’s my town. When I retired I was really lonely, but then I joined U3A and since then my friendships have been amazing.”

I’m eighty-two and I’ve been retired for fifteen years, I must admit at the beginning I was really lonely because I missed the people I worked with at University of Sussex; I was a receptionist there so was really busy. Then I joined U3A and since then friendships have been amazing, the trips we do are amazing and the friendships I’ve made are really valuable.

We went recently to the Isle of Wight and we all get on really well, it’s a happy place to be so I’m no longer lonely. Brighton is fabulous, it’s a twenty-four hour city and it’s totally cosmopolitan, people living side by side getting on with each other. As far as Brighton’s concerned, it’s my town. Being fifty is just another number.
