“However many births you see, it’s always wonderful and they’re always beautiful. I think it helps if you can look at the good side of a job and be enthusiastic. My garden is my thing now. It’s such a joy to pick your own fruit and vegetables. We’ve had a lot of crumbles lately.”

I’ve got a dog I take out for walks twice a day, I like gardening, I’ve got a big garden, I like decorating too, I’m very busy. I was a healthcare assistant on the maternity unit. I liked working on the postnatal ward but I also used to work on the delivery ward, it doesn’t matter how many births you see, it’s always wonderful and they’re always beautiful. Be enthusiastic, try to look at the good side of your job, if you do that it’s ok.

Now, I can do everything I want to do when I want to do it. I used to work nights so came home to sleep and had 3 children too, so now I’m doing all the things I didn’t get to do then. When I was younger I used to do lots of evening classes, I don’t do that now but my garden’s my thing, I grow my own vegetables. The joy of picking your own runner beans, courgettes and apples, we’ve had lots of apple crumble lately! I don’t like the aches and pains much (of being over 50) but I just ignore them and keep going.
